
We
welcome your child to the McAllen Independent School District. The
Transportation Department’s primary goal is to provide safe, efficient and
timely transportation for students and schools.
Students eligible for transportation to
special education programs are resident district students with disabilities,
impairments, or both who are eligible for special education services and who
would be unable to attend school and benefit from their special education
programs of instruction without the availability of specialized transportation.
To be eligible for special education transportation, a student must attend the
closest available program to his or her zoned school of attendance and have:
1. A written Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee recommendation
requesting specialized transportation services
and stating the specific type of transportation services
necessary to reasonably accommodate the student’s disability or
impairment; and;
2. An Individualized Education
Program or Individualized Family Service Plan that includes the written
recommendation of the
ARD committee requesting specialized transportation services.
No family members are
allowed on bus.
Parent
Responsibilities
1. Have your child fully clothed, toileted, and ready 5 - 10 minutes
before pick-up time; if child is not ready, the driver is instructed to proceed
and bus will not be sent back.
2. Accompany your child to the bus.
3. Remember what bus your
child rides; ROUTE #___
4. Notify the Transportation Department @ 632-3211 if your child is ill and unable to ride the bus.

5. Notify the Transportation Department @ 632-3211 if the bus is more than 10 minutes late.
6. Notify your child’s CAMPUS and the Transportation Department
immediately if there are any changes to your personal circumstances (i.e.
address change, alternate address, special daycare arrangements, etc)
7. Never send medication
to school with your child.
8. Do not send child with food to eat on bus.
9. Do not send messages with the bus driver or bus aide.
10 Contact your child’s campus with all personal concerns and/or
issues.
Student
Responsibilities
Observe
the same conduct rules as the classroom while riding the bus.

Use
appropriate language and be courteous to your bus operator and fellow
passengers.

Do
not eat, drink, or smoke on the bus.

Throwing
objects out of a window or littering the bus is prohibited.

Sit
in your assigned seat and remain seated at all times until you are at your
final destination.

Obey
the directives of the bus operator and the transportation attendant.

Keep
your hands, feet, and head inside of the bus at all times.

Respect
school property. You and your parent or guardian will be responsible for any
damage you cause to a bus.

Inappropriate
gestures or comments to passing motorists or others outside of the school
bus are not allowed.
School Bus Driver
Responsibilities
What are the school bus drivers' responsibilities?
1. School bus drivers are professional drivers with special training
and commercial driver's licenses.
2. They are responsible for establishing an efficient bus route,
transporting the students safely, and following a consistent schedule as close
as possible.
3. If there is not a bus aide, the bus driver performs the bus aide's
duties.
Bus Aide Responsibilities
What are school bus aides' responsibilities?
1. School bus aides assist the drivers to ensure all the students are
safe on the bus
2. They secure seat belts, wheelchairs, necessary supports, etc.
3. Aides maintain discipline and see that students stay in their
seats, and report problems.
4. Bus aides are provided where they are most needed.
