Teaching with Technology Spotlight |
||||
In this issue we are spotlighting Vicki Warwas, a 4th grade teacher at Navarro Elementary School. As a child, Vicki attended Jackson Elementary, Lamar Jr. High, and graduated from Memorial High School in the early 80’s. She has a B.S. degree in Elementary Education with a minor in English. “I began teaching at Navarro Elem. in 1987 and have been there ever since! I truly enjoy these young ones. You never know what they will come up with. It’s always an inspiration when former students visit and tell me about their lives and future dreams. I enjoy my Corvettes, WaveRunner, reading, volunteering with the American Cancer Society, and spending time with friends and family. My nephews and niece bring so much joy to my life.” Ms. Warwas uses educational websites to enhance her teaching. “I especially utilize AAA Math for remedial and enrichment purposes. Discovery Education Streaming (formerly United Streaming) is an outstanding site, so it ranks high with me! Reading Renaissance is used daily in my classroom as well.” “With the use of technology, my students are able to view and experience real life situations. It always enhances my teaching! I feel the use of technology captures their attention and holds it.” “Especially, utilizing Discovery Education Streaming videos better prepares my students for the future. It teaches them concepts at their level and makes them ponder.” “I constantly emphasize a child’s value beyond the educational standpoint. My classroom is welcoming and the children know I am here for them.” “Here's a listing of some of the websites I use often:”
We thank Ms. Warwas for her dedication, hard work, and her ability to effectively incorporate educational Internet resources into her everyday teaching. |
